Taste

A light, clear infusion. Sweet from the first sip, with a soft, rounded mint and a hint of green herb. Light body, gentle finish. A longer steep intensifies the infusion.

About Green Mint


Green mint is spearmint — menthe verte in French, nana across North Africa, where it is the mint in the sweet tea poured from a height into small glasses. It is the mild one: almost no menthol, so the sweetness of the leaf comes through.

The plant: Mentha spicata

  • The spear is the flower — spicata means spiked: a slender spike of flowers stands at the tip of every stem, and that spike gave spearmint its English name. Below it, the leaf is bright green, pointed and wrinkled, and smells sweet when brushed.
  • Mint and caraway, same molecule — spearmint's flavour comes from carvone. Its mirror-image twin is the taste of caraway seed: one molecule, two directions, two completely different smells.
  • The older mint — spearmint is one of the parents of peppermint, which is a cross between it and water mint.
