About Camomile

The Greeks called it khamaimēlon — earth apple — for the scent of the flowers when you crush them between your fingers. The Spanish still call it manzanilla, little apple.

The plant: Matricaria chamomilla

A small flowering plant — feathery-leaved, with flower heads no wider than a fingernail: a ring of white petals around a yellow center.
Open ground — grows on sunny, open land across Europe, western Asia and North Africa.
Two camomiles — Roman and German are different plants that share a name. This is the German one, the one grown for tea.
