About Oolong Jasmin

Oolong is wūlóng in Chinese: black dragon. It is one of the six traditional kinds of Chinese tea, and sits between green and black: the leaf is left to oxidise part of the way. Jasmine tea is traditionally scented with the blossoms of Jasminum sambac.

The leaf: Camellia sinensis

One plant, many teas — oolong, green, white and black tea all come from the leaves of the same evergreen shrub.
White hair, silver needle — the Chinese name, Bai Hao Yin Zhen, describes the fine silver down on each bud.

The jasmine: Jasminum sambac

An evening flower — the white, waxy blossoms open at dusk, when their scent is strongest.
How the scent reaches the leaf — tea and fresh blossoms are layered together overnight. The leaf takes up the fragrance, and the spent flowers are sifted out.
